I have NO PATIENCE for ignorant (white, English-speaking) people who come to Taiwan and have the audacity to call #Taiwanese a dialect.
Sussex English is a dialect. Californian English is a dialect. Taiwanese is NOT a dialect. Taiwanese has its own dialects.

If Portuguese and Spanish are separate languages, Taiwanese is a language.
My take: it’s a way to mesh all non-European languages into the same bag, simplifying our culture because it isn’t part of the Western World. Making it easier to digest

**I NEED to clarify why i said white, English-speaking. I see that I may have phrased it badly, I DO NOT mean:

1. we live in a western-centric world, with highly differentiated and nuanced understanding of Western cultures, languages, etc.
2. If a non-Eng speaker confuses language and dialect, it would be very unfair for me to call them out just because of varying lang. skill
