There's supposed to be a new bus station here—an empty plot of concrete off Western Avenue in Cardiff—which was supposed to open in 2017

Now council bosses have admitted it may not open until 2023, which is actually 'quite fortuitous', somehow...

The Western Transport Interchange was first announced in 2015, a key part of the council's plans to get more drivers out of cars and onto public transport

The bus station lies on the future Cardiff Crossrail line, and a planned park-and-ride bus route from J33 on the M4

After the developer contracted to build the bus station pulled out, the council's housing department took over the project, redesigning the whole thing. They are set to apply for planning permission within the next three months (now a little bit behind schedule...)

Slightly absurdly, council bosses claimed the potential six years of delay is actually a good thing—as it aligns with delays to the new park and ride system being built

Unsurprisingly, councillors on the environment committee thought otherwise

(PS: this is a different bus station to the one being built in the city centre, which was also supposed to open in 2017, but now also won't be ready until 2023)
