We're living through a crazy period. Covid has made everything much clearer.
Politics-as-usual is now more obviously the formal, negative administration of society by a political sphere that is hostile to it.
There's no more pretence that civil society can have an independent organised existence, apart from atomised individuals and their immediate families (if they have them).
No need to pretend that civil liberties might even be a thing.
No need to pretend that civil liberties might even be a thing.
Most social institutions — and even many forms of social interaction — were declared non-essential, either formally or in practice. To be switched off indefinitely if necessary.
(Hilarious to see the left talk about the complete atomisation of the working class through lockdowns as equivalent to successful general strikes for health!)
The current big push in the US to clamp down on the 74 million who voted for the politically unacceptable candidate in the election is just an outgrowth of those bigger changes.
Hard to imagine a less capable bunch to lead that triumphalist overreach than Biden and his crew, however.
The craziness has only just begun.
