Do it on your ownYou don't want a job that you didn't know how to do the assigment they provided. Be honest about your abilities. I once got an assigment that a mid might get. I sent back 'thank you, but I'm not prepared for you yet'. Better than loosing their or mine time.
Type all of your codeYou'll probably get part of the code from google (not all, remember #1!) - don't just copypaste it, retype it and make sure you know what is going on.
Overdeliver it. That's why I landed my first job. I solved their set of simple assigments and put them neatly in a react app. Later I found out that CTO was looking for someone who knew react (not in the job specs).
Use CSS, a framework, solve the problem in a better way...
Before you overdeliver it, make sure you did good job with the basics.Don't run before you can walk. If you run out of time, it's better to deliver solid basics than some overdelivered crap.
Don't try to be first. If a company hires someone who was first to deliver the assigment, you don't want to work there anyway. Rather take time and make sure your code is of high quality.
Don't miss the deadline though.
