Castel Sant'Angelo(or Hadrianeum) was originally built under Emperor Hadrian in 123 AD,done in 139 AD.

Built as a Monumental tomb for him & his fam.

Atop it, He stood on his chariot with his 4 horses marching.

Hadrian's Wall too in #ACValhalla was built by him.

See, Augustus' Mausoleum was full, so Hadrian built Hadrianeum & didn't surpass Augustus... the traditional respect he had was immeasurable.

Urns of his wife, Faustina & later Roman Emps. was placed there.

In 271, it became a fortress under Marcus Aurelius..

In 271 AD, The landmark was made a fortress & defended Rome, being its Northern fort.

In the Dark & Middle Ages, the Fortress was used even more for defense, be it that Roman ruins served as

structures against Barbarians.

The Fortress became so dangerous, a secret passageway was made to ensure the safety of Popes.

16th century, Pope Alexander VI, aka RODRIGO BORGIA, Fortified the hell out of Castel Sant'Angelo, adding bastions, a round tower, plus made the waters around it moat
