It's still early to know the volume of tech workers leaving SF & where exactly they're going but here's a taste of what's happening in Bozeman, Park City and Boise https://www.wsj.com/articles/tech-workers-take-to-the-mountains-bringing-silicon-valley-with-them-11604242802
Some pluses: more tax revenue & more talent, who might go on to start companies of their own that create jobs. Some negatives? Cost of housing! Park City pulled in $1.49 billion July-Sept
And in Bozeman, inventory plunged from 477 homes for sale in Sept 2019 to 164 in 2020

Also something to keep an eye on: effects on wages. Head of HR for a Boise-based tech co told me that people are moving in from SF and Seattle w all different levels of compensation. And now their own employees might be able to get jobs w big tech cos w/o having to leave Boise
The Boise co has only lost a handful of employees to big tech cos in SF and Seattle so far but they anticipate this could be a big issue going forward. âLast year I would have said, yeah, I feel really good weâre paying market,â she said. This year? Market rate is out the window!
