English has a history of naming fabrics after their places of origin. Think of "Denim" from Nîmes (in France), "Muslin" from Mosul (in Iraq), "Satin" from Zaitun (Arabic name for the Chinese city of Quanzhou) etc. There are at least 2 English words for fabrics of Indian origin.
Calico from Calicut (in Kerala), from where the fabric was originally exported.
