the ongoing Mi’kmaq situation should be a reminder for us Canadians that at the end of the day, no matter how “polite” people are, we are still living in a settler colonial state and once settler comfort is threatened the polite facade inevitably gets thrown away

when settler comfort is threatened, the true nature of people and our society shows itself along with colonialism and racism like it has throughout our history. We like to think that we are so much different from the US under the guise of our “politeness” but we are much the same

our “politeness” is a privilege that settlers have that comforts them and makes them feel better for themselves. ask any marginalized group, the polite facade is a privilege that they are not given
