Honestly this CC casting debacle is exactly why I hate this trend of "tell me how you ID in your audition!" Not everyone is out, not everyone is sure, and the public isn& #39;t entitled to know how you identify. Queerness is complicated and being public isn& #39;t the end-all be-all.
And I *completely get* the frustration from queer folks. I promise you, I do. Representation fucking matters.
But!
Insisting that you must be confident and out and proud before you& #39;re allowed to play queer characters doesn& #39;t sit right with me.

I wish we could have conversations that honor the nuance of these situations, but we have them on Twitter and character limits make meaningful discussion SO difficult. I don& #39;t know what the answer is.
Out-ness isn& #39;t even cut and dry. I& #39;m out as lesbian, but there are people I& #39;m out to and not out to in varying degrees, and the same goes for my wife - who I don& #39;t name online.
Out-ness as a signifier for "queer purity" is so deeply upsetting to me.

Also, as much as I appreciate allies, I wish people would sit down and listen first if it& #39;s not your fight. The people I saw being nasty yesterday are, generally speaking, not even trans. Why? Why do you feel the need to attack queer people and fellow allies? Can you just listen?
