So obviously what the NBA players are doing is a strike, but they can& #39;t strike under the terms of their CBA. So I thought calling it a boycott was their way of skirting that with a little wink. But...
Now a lot of people Online are saying we *should* call it a strike both because it& #39;s more accurate and, I think, normalize striking/let people see the power in it. Which is good! But!
I think there& #39;s something to be said for calling it a boycott if that& #39;s what the players are calling it. BUT I don& #39;t know that they are! I can& #39;t find a statement from the Bucks or others that calls it by name - it& #39;s just that they can& #39;t play given the ongoing injustice.
So for what it& #39;s worth, I think newspapers should call it a "strike" because that& #39;s what it is in practice - it& #39;s withholding labor, not dollars. Buuut I don& #39;t really mind the fiction of calling this wildcat a "boycott" if we all get what& #39;s going on.
Anyway I also don& #39;t want to ignore the WNBA and MLB players striking as well, but I don& #39;t know what& #39;s in their CBA about strikes so I left them out of this thread about semantics. The end
