The fact that a lot of folks are labeling street vendors in Los Angeles “Mexican” shows how disconnected they are with these folks & how even Brown folks equate everyone to being Mexican. I’ve met many who are not Mexican but from El Salvador, Guatemala etc.

I was raised in South Central Los Angeles & the street vendors we supported & purchased from were not Mexican but Indigenous folks from Guatemala & El Salvador. Also, please stop using videos of Black folks targetting street vendors to further perpetuate anti-Blackness.

If you weren’t aware this video is being used to further perpetuate anti-Blackness bc Black folks are targetting street vendors for their money. https://twitter.com/bigmosaicc/status/1277984975497728001?s=21">https://twitter.com/bigmosaic... https://twitter.com/bigmosaicc/status/1277984975497728001">https://twitter.com/bigmosaic...

Street vendors are targeted by folks who want to rob them—it’s not just Black folks. Most street vendors I knew growing up were robbed by Brown folks too. Don’t make things so binary when they are multifaceted & complex.

Also stop using videos of folks doing harm to perpetuate stereotypes & racism. Every community has their bad apples. Don’t poison the entire barrel bc of a few bad apples. This isn’t how anti-racism or solidarity works.

if you want to all of a sudden care for street vendors bc you saw a video of them being robbed by Black folks, have the decency to get to know them first- their stories & origins. Many of them wouldn’t let you use their struggles or bad experiences to perpetuate anti Blackness
