In our very 1st extra curricular episode, we’re Ru-vealing Ru-ligion in our collective favorite show, RuPaul’s Drag Race. Because it’s fun, & all T all shade, it underlines the point of @KeepingIt_101: knowing how to talk about religion--how to see it--is important.
But this isn& #39;t all show references & fangirl goopery. It& #39;s also to say: US pop culture likes to do this Queers on one side, religion on the other dichotomy that isn& #39;t true of the history of American queers OR religions; the show gives us complexity, whether it means to or not.
Episode is organized like a ball, hennies.
CATEGORY IS: Jesus is a Biscuit. How is religion woven through this show, broadly?
CATEGORY IS: It& #39;s Just Drag. How are queens referencing religion in their lewks?
CATEGORY IS: Nothing Happens, America. Monique Heart& #39;s classique line about praying the gay away--and its results. How is religion a violent space for queens?
CATEGORY IS: RuPaul& #39;s RuLigious Eleganza Extravaganza! How is RuPaul performing religion, preaching religion, & playing with prosperity gospels?
Just because it& #39;s extracurricular doesn& #39;t mean we didn& #39;t offer primary sources--how we relate to this show! I told the story of demanding a mom/baby ward nurse help me find the Snatch Game ep of S9 hours after having my 2nd.
