it is deeply, fundamentally insane, at this point, to evaluate the Trump administration as if it was in any way a normal US government. its corruption, incompetence, and venality are the *starting points* of any argument about what can be done under it.

this should be the starting point of any realistic analysis about what can be done about the pandemic in the US.
