Reasons why I hate my skin color: a thread
For reference, I am light brown, I appear Muslim and Indian, I am an Indo-Guyanese Muslim

I have been “randomly selected” every single time I’ve gone through an airport above the age of 13 (and I travel at least twice a year)

I have been called a towelhead, a sand/curry n***er, sand monkey and every fucking slur there is REPEATEDLY, but I’m supposed to be okay with it because “it’s just a joke and it’s funny bro why are you so mad”
No one takes these slurs seriously

Indians are ALWAYS the butt of a joke, the accent is constantly mocked, all our representation in media are joke characters, no one takes Indian movies or music or dances seriously, the less popular desi food always seems “gross”
I don’t even wanna talk about the Muslim jokes

There is no support from anywhere outside of my own ethnicity
There is no support from other minorities (because they’re busy with their own struggles)
White people are either racist, don’t really care, or focus solely on the issues of other minorities

I don’t mean to blame any other groups, I understand it’s not your obligation to help, but I hate feeling ostracized from every single conversation about race because I’m not white and I’m not black and I’m not Hispanic

I do not feel represented at all
There’s barely any representation for the larger minority groups and we basically get jack shit

There’s more shit but I don’t wanna bring it up rn sorry this was just on my mind and I wanted to talk

I don’t like feeling ashamed of the way I was born
